You might be wondering how long does a Social Security Administration case take? If you’re applying for disability, how long will it be before I can count on having my disability check?
It takes at least 24 months, in most cases, from the beginning of your application until your hearing. And then it may be several more months after your hearing before you receive your benefits. So approximately, two and a half years before you will get your first check.
Now, that two and a half year period can be shortened by certain factors. One of the factors that can shorten that 2 1/2-year period is if you are considering Dire Need case. Dire need is a case where you might be losing the place where you’re living or you might be losing your car, or your illnesses may require you to get your benefits earlier in order to get medical treatment. You have to apply for Dire Need and the judge has to approve dire need. And you had to provide evidence to show that you’re not just trying to get ahead of other people in line but that you really have a dire need.
Each case is specific and each case is different. And dire need cases are judged on a case by case basis. For the most part, in most cases, it’s two years from the start of a case to the end of a case. And then a few more months before you get your check.
