There are 4 main reasons that lawyers object. First, an improper question has been asked. A question can be improper for a number of reasons, from the way they ask the question to the judge has already ruled on what questions cannot be asked. Second, in order to preserve the record. A lot of things that come up in appeal as an issue, must be protected by an objection during trial. Some of the rules say that in order to bring up an issue during the appeal, you must have already raised an objection during trial. The final two reasons to object are to throw off the other attorney and to break the questioning rhythm. When you object, the other attorney may forget what he was saying or asking a witness. These objections are used solely for gamesmanship.
