Free divorces
Today, divorces are becoming very expensive and very time consuming. In addition, some divorces can drag on for years due to the conflicts of interest of the both parties. Thus some people think twice about going through the divorce process, instead they choose to endure an unhappy married life. The government is stepping in, and the state courts will try to get the help of pro bono attorneys who will be able to help poor families obtain divorces, which are uncontested, as reported by the New York Law Journal in an October 29th, 2012 news article.
Uncontested divorces are divorces where both parties agree to the terms and conditions of the divorce and there are no disputes about anything regarding the divorce, which includes but is not limited to property and assets, and child support. The state deputy chief administrative judge, Judge Fern Fisher, says that the pro bono attorneys will obtain teaching from the state and from other associations that provide legal services. The judge says that uncontested divorces should not be that difficult as the parties are in agreement to the terms of the divorce, thus it would not require a lot of training. This training will be held during the month of November and those who will be a part of this new program will receive about two hours of the continue legal education credit and the pro bono attorney will be required to complete approximately four uncontested divorces. There are only about eight groups, which will be participating in the pro bono uncontested services divorces program. Thank you.
